How NameNesting Creates Its Content
NameNesting is built on a simple principle: be useful and be honest. This page explains how our content is created, so you can judge it for yourself.
Where our names come from
NameNesting's database holds 22,700+ names spanning 36 languages and cultures - including Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Hebrew, Persian, Greek, Latin, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, French, and more. Names are stored with their native scripts where applicable, because a name written in its own script carries meaning that transliteration loses.
How we determine meanings and origins
Each name's meaning, etymology, and origin come from a combination of reference data and AI-assisted research using culture-aware methods. Where reference data is thin, AI helps fill gaps in etymology and origin.
How we handle uncertainty
This matters most. We do not invent meanings. When a name's origin cannot be determined with confidence, we say so - "Unknown" is an acceptable, honest answer. AI-generated meanings carry a confidence level, and low-confidence results are treated cautiously. We would rather tell you we don't know than fabricate an etymology that sounds plausible but isn't true.
AI-generated insights
Personality "vibes" and some meaning research are generated by AI on demand, and are always clearly labeled as AI-generated. These are meant as inspiration, not authoritative cultural or religious fact. For names with deep cultural or religious significance, we encourage you to verify details with trusted family or community sources.
Our content improves over time
The database is continuously enriched. Names that show limited information today may gain fuller meanings as our research reaches them.
